Services

We do the behind-the-scenes, unglamorous, heavy lifting that ensures textiles find their most sustainable destination.
When you partner with us, we work closely with you to create a tailor-made plan that meets your unique needs and goals.
With our expertise and commitment to social responsibility, you can trust that the garments we process will be put to their best use. You can choose from our menu of services or consolidate them as a one-stop solution. This work allows us to train and employ people and is a direct extension of our belief that the circular economy must include people who have historically been left behind in the linear economy.

Sorting + Grading

Our sorting and grading process combines both human touch and tech enabled fiber scanners. Based on customer specifications:
  • Items are screened for reuse potential.
  • They are identified and sorted by fiber type.
  • Items are assigned individual asset tags for tracking and traceability.
  • Optimal disposition pathway is determined.

Reuse + Resale

Extending the life of a garment is our first priority.  Our partners have the ability to choose the path of resale, donation or a combination of both.
  • Items are graded for reuse channels.
  • For items designated for donation, we provide an In-kind Donation Letter for tax purposes.
  • Laundry and repair services are applied as needed.
  • Items are photographed and listed to the remarketing platform of Customer choice.
  • Purchased items are fulfilled: picked, packed and shipped to the customer.
  • Individual asset tags are assigned for tracking and traceability.

Third Party Logistics

Homeboy Threads can provide the fulfillment engine behind your remarketing efforts. As an extension of your resale service or platform, our services include
  • Items are received and audited for accuracy.
  • Items are graded for remarketing.
  • Laundry and repair services are applied as needed.
  • Inventory is stored in preparation for shipment.
  • Purchased items are sent to fulfillment where they are picked, packed and shipped to the customer.
  • Individual asset tags are assigned for tracking and traceability.

Preparation for Recycling

When a garment is routed to recycling, our team performs several intermediary steps necessary to prepare those items for recycling.  The level of intervention is determined by your specific needs. These services include:
  • Items can be detrimmed, debranded, deconstructed or shredded.
  • Outputs are baled and stored for transport to recycling partner facilities.
  • Each aggregated shipment is asset tagged for tracking and traceability.

Data Collection and Reporting

Homeboy Threads' proprietary tracking system enables detailed reporting and transparency that can be used to create and measure your KPI's, sustainability goals, and ESG reporting. Capabilities include:
  • Material composition breakdown
  • Product category breakdown
  • Disposition pathway
  • Landfill diversion
  • Social Impact including job training hours created

EPR & Compliance Consulting

Senate Bill (SB) 707, also known as the Responsible Textile Recovery Act of 2024, requires textile and apparel companies to recycle, reuse, or collect unwanted clothing. The bill was signed into law by California Governor Gavin Newsom on September 28, 2024. Don’t wait for a specific need but let us help you think through the implications of impending regulations.

Homeboy Threads will help you:

  • Determine how to join a producer responsibility organization (PRO).
  • Help you develop a plan for collecting, repairing, and recycling textiles.
  • Provide the necessary reporting for compliance.

The GUESS partnership with Homeboy Threads creates economic opportunities for our Los Angeles community and offers a solution for apparel and textile waste.
